After going to each of the sites listed, I chose monkeyon.com as a site I would use often. Monkeyon is a site that allows you to send email reminders to people's email accounts. I sent one to myself to see how it works and found it to be good to use as a gentle reminder. The recipient gets an email from your email address, they get a message saying that this is a reminder that they need whatever task to be completed and the date and time that it is to be completed by,and that they can expect more until the date it is due to be completed. The receipient can choose to "kill the monkey", that stops future messages about the task and sends you a notice that the monkey has been "killed".
Signing up is incredibly simple. They need your email adress, name (I just used my first name),and your own password. I joke sometimes and say things are so simple that even I can do them, this is something that is so simple that I can actually teach someone how to do it.
I can see a teacher using this to send students, parents, and faculty reminders about school related subjects, as well as using it for personal use. The monkeys can be used as a friendly reminder to friends and family for special occasions, errands that need to be run, the possibilities are endless. I can see myself getting many monkeys with my memory issues, I might even send some to myself when I really need to remember something that is not in the immediate future.

Sean, monkeyon.com looks like a great site, I know that I personally can use it as I forget tasks quite often. I agree with you that this site would be very useful for both busy students and busy parents. Thanks for sharing this with us, and have a good summer.
ReplyDeleteThis was what I was going to do! I thought it was great. What a great way to remind yourself and anyone else that needs reminded. I agree with you as well that teachers can use this for lots of different reminders.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great invention. I also think "what a great idea, wish I would have thought of that" when I see a new site on all these blogs! Its a great way to remind friends, family, students, and parents about anything. It looks like a great site and a really useful resource you can continue to use even after this session. Great find!
